The course titled Evaluation and Management of the Runner is a course designed to enhance the clinician’s perceptive on examination, biomechanics, and treatment that is sport-specific to those that decide to take up the activity running. While this information is applicable to high-level athletes it very much centers on the foundations of running efficiency; making it pertinent and vital to all levels of running experience. This course
is an 8-hour long course with a set hour lunch break in the middle. The course is designed to be held inside of a clinic where a treadmill will be required to be used for lab purposes.

Instructional Methods: Hands-on lab, lecture with Q&A, group discussion, patient cases, evidence review.
Course Completion Requirements: must attend the entire 1-day course and complete the post-course test

Course Objectives
- Complete a clinical examination using appropriate assessment measures for the runner.
- Describe the optimal and compensated biomechanics of the runner that can cause compromised tissue and common overuse pathologies.
- Be able to evaluate and address essential criteria for shoe wear.
- Identify critical postural alignment, joint mobility, stability, control and endurance balance key for running.
- Develop a comprehensive treatment plan including the application of manual techniques and corrective exercise for the runner.
8:00-8:30 Introduction/ Discuss experience with treating runners
8:30-9:30 Review Walking Gait, Define Running, Running economy, Correct biomechanics and most common errors, Mini lab.
9:30-11:00 Clinical Evaluation (to include stability, mobility, postural alignment, and muscular control).
11:00-12:00 Divided group lab (Gait analyzation and Mock Evaluation)
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-3:00 Treatment Plan. (Footwear, recognizing injury, manual techniques, corrective exercise)
3:00-4:00 Lab practice performing and evaluating functional strength screen
4:00-5:00 Case Study (running evaluations start to finish)
