Mastering Orthotic Fabrication for the Upper Extremity Level 1. Dania Beach, FL. July 26-27, 2025

Course Rationale:

The use of orthotics for upper extremities is an interegal intervention during post op protocols, to promote optimal positioning for recovery post trauma, and functional positioning to prevent joint deformities. Therapists who fabricate these orthoses require core knowledge of basic anatomy of the upper extremitiy involved, core understanding of the orthotic biomechanics and hands-on experience working with the materials in order to produce a well-fitting and effective orthosis for their patients. This course will provide the basic understanding and hands-on practice to fabricate commonly seen orthoses that are used in practice and can act as the core components for more advanced orthoses.

 

  
Course Objectives:

This course will give an overall understanding of the basic components of fabricating orthoses. The participant will learn when to determine the need for use of an orthosis in their plan of care, how to plan and fabricate common orthoses of the upper extremity, determine which thermoplastic and strapping materials would be best suited for each orthosis, proper billing and documentation for the fabrication, and core knowledge of simple orthoses that can be used for more advanced fabrication in therapeutic practice.
