Shoulder injuries are commonly seen in the upper extremities following work incidences, age related degeneration, overuse injuries and traumatic incidences across the age continuum. Clinical reasoning is essential in determining the root cause of the pathology to provide evidence-based and effective interventions. This presentation will provide the clinician with fundamental information necessary for identifying and managing individuals with specific upper extremity shoulder disorders. As well as functional exercise, manual therapy skills, therapeutic activity planning and skilled intervention strategies to improve overall quality of life and return to function.
Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, ATCs
Instructional Level: Beginners
Instructional Methods: Hands-on lab, lecture with Q&A, group discussion, patient cases, evidence review. This is a live satellite course.
Course Completion Requirements: must attend the entire 2-day course and complete the post-course test

Course Objectives:
- Discuss the anatomy of the bone and musculature structures of the upper extremity with focus on shoulder girdle and surrounding areas.
- Identify signs and symptoms consistent with pathological boney, tendon and ligament injuries affecting the upper extremities.
- Identify signs and symptoms consistent with late onset and differential diagnoses such as bursitis and tendonitis.
- Interpret evaluation/screening findings including background information, outcome measures (FOTO), PMH, body chart, hypothesis list, special testing and objective information.
- Implement a POC including treatment selection, manual therapy techniques for joint mobility as well as soft tissue mobility and discuss patient response to treatment for shoulder injuries, and chronic late onset differential diagnoses.
